Yeah it’s Christmas!! We woke up early so
we could get into town to go to a church service to start the
day. When we got to the church we had planned attending no one
was there. We realised that they must have had their service
yesterday, being a Sunday. So we went in search of another
church as there were about five in town. After checking all the
churches we found only one had a Christmas service and we were
half an hour late. Since there were only two other cars in the
car park, we decided not to go in because we didn’t really want
to interrupt and be stared at by everyone.

We returned to our cottage, well our tin
shack a little disappointed, and wondered what to do. It was
cold and raining outside, and we heard on the news that there
was even snow on Mt Wellington and in the Victorian alpine areas
which is a little unusual for Christmas time. We decided it
would be best to do nothing and just watch Christmas TV all day
in the warmth. We exchanged presents and had some Christmas
wine. Jo got me a little fire extinguisher for the Landcruiser
and a little compass thing to play with. I got Jo a rubbish bin
for the bathroom, some wine, and bath bombs. Not really all
that interesting I guess, I couldn’t even take her out for a
nice restaurant or pub meal like I had been planning to do since
the start of the trip. Instead of getting a wood fired pizza
from the local shop which is what I felt like, we ended up
putting some tomato, cheese and capsicum on my left over damper
scone things turning them into little pizzas, which were pretty
good still.
There is not really much more to say about
today except that we lazed about wishing we were at home with
family. We did get and make some phone calls to family and
friends which was nice. I think tomorrow we will head off to
Bruny Island for a couple of days, then do the Wellington range
4WD tracks before heading up the East coast, and hopefully see
the North West corner which we missed last time we were in
Tassie.
